Erdogan links green growth to climate action and national responsibility
Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Türkiye has increased the share of renewable energy in its total installed electricity capacity to 62 percent, mainly by expanding wind and solar power.
Speaking at the Cemre Fund introduction program, Erdogan said the country is stepping up efforts to address climate change and environmental challenges. He stressed that ignoring the global climate crisis is neither possible nor responsible.
The president also highlighted Türkiye’s strong performance in afforestation, saying it ranks among the leading countries in the world and is one of Europe’s top nations in increasing forest assets.
Erdogan confirmed that Türkiye will host COP31 this year in Antalya, welcoming nearly 200 countries. He said the message of the summit will be clear: it is time for action, not just words.
He added that environmental protection efforts in Türkiye are not driven by politics but by a commitment to protect nature and build a cleaner future for the next generation.
