A fire broke out at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday, prompting passenger evacuations and temporary disruption to international flights.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) confirmed the blaze was extinguished with no reported injuries. As a precaution, international departures were temporarily suspended, and some incoming flights were diverted after the fire affected network and IT services.
Images circulating online showed travellers leaving the terminal with luggage as smoke filled parts of the building and emergency alarms sounded.
Flights that had already landed continued to be processed, ACSA said.
The incident comes days after plans were announced for a phased infrastructure upgrade at the airport, which handled 11.1 million passengers in 2025, including over 3 million international travellers.
