Türkiye and Syria are working to improve their economic relationship by creating a new joint trade system. The goal is to make customs procedures faster and increase trade between the two countries.

Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat spoke with Syrian officials, including customs chief Qutaiba Ahmed Badawi and Economy Minister Nidal al-Shaar. They discussed upgrading border gates, improving infrastructure, and making the movement of goods quicker and more efficient.

Both sides agreed to launch the first meeting of the Türkiye–Syria Joint Customs Committee, following an earlier agreement made in December. They also talked about strengthening logistics networks and encouraging more investment cooperation.

According to Bolat, trade between the two countries reached $3.7 billion last year. A Joint Economic and Trade Committee meeting is planned for this spring, along with a larger business and investment forum to involve private companies.

This move shows that both countries want to increase economic cooperation and take advantage of new regional opportunities.
