African football officials have paid tribute to Gianni Infantino as he marked 10 years at the helm of FIFA, highlighting his leadership and the impact of FIFA-funded initiatives across the continent.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) led the congratulations, with its president Patrice Motsepe describing Infantino as a “loyal and trustworthy friend and partner” to African and global football.

National Support From Nigeria and Uganda

In Nigeria, Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Gusau congratulated Infantino in a video message, saying the past decade had brought major transformation to the sport worldwide. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s continued support for FIFA’s mission.

Meanwhile, in Uganda, Federation of Uganda Football Associations President Moses Magogo praised the tangible benefits of the FIFA Forward programme. He noted that FUFA expanded its headquarters and progressed with the FUFA Stadium Kadiba project through FIFA support.

A Decade Since Reform and Renewal

Infantino assumed office in February 2016 after the departure of Sepp Blatter, following a brief interim period under the late Issa Hayatou.

To mark the anniversary on 25 February 2026, Infantino wrote to FIFA’s 211 member associations, thanking them for their backing over the years. He said the organisation had become “stronger, more transparent and credible,” emphasizing that reform, transparency and development had been central to his leadership.
