The African Union has called for calm after the United States and Israel carried out strikes on Iran.
The head of the African Union, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, urged all sides to show restraint, reduce tensions quickly, and continue dialogue instead of allowing the situation to escalate.
He warned that further conflict could increase global instability. This could affect energy prices, food supplies, and already fragile economies — especially in Africa, where many countries are dealing with ongoing security and economic challenges.
The strikes come at a time of rising tension over Iran’s nuclear programme, while talks between Iran and the United States were still ongoing.
According to reports from Reuters, witnesses saw a large explosion in Tehran, Iran’s capital, with thick smoke rising into the sky. The Iranian government has not yet officially commented. Explosions were also reported in other cities including Isfahan, Qom, Karaj and Kermanshah, according to Fars News Agency.
