Türkiye has described the ongoing U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran as “unjust and unlawful,” saying they violate international law and risk destabilising the entire region.

Speaking in Ankara, AK Party spokesperson Omer Celik said launching military attacks while diplomatic negotiations were still ongoing sends a dangerous message. “Diplomacy cannot be used as a cover for previously planned attacks,” he stated, warning of “deeply troubling consequences.”

Celik offered condolences to Iranians over reported civilian casualties and the deaths of senior leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He also cautioned that openly discussing regime change in a UN member state could lead to prolonged instability, arguing that past interventions in the region have often resulted in civil war and chaos.

At the same time, Türkiye urged Iran not to widen the conflict by targeting third countries, stressing the importance of distinguishing between self-defence and actions that could spark a broader regional war.

Ankara says it is preparing for possible escalation, focusing on border security, potential migration flows, economic risks linked to energy routes like the Strait of Hormuz, and the safety of Turkish citizens abroad. Turkish embassies and consulates are reportedly operating around the clock to assist nationals who may wish to leave affected areas.
