The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that six American service members have been killed in action amid the ongoing escalation following joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran.
In a statement released Monday, CENTCOM said the remains of two previously unaccounted-for service members were recovered from a facility struck during Iran’s initial retaliatory attacks. As of 4 p.m. ET on March 2, the total number of U.S. military personnel killed stands at six.
The command noted that “major combat operations” are still underway and that the identities of the fallen will not be released until 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified.
Earlier, CENTCOM had announced four deaths, including one service member who succumbed to injuries sustained during Iran’s initial strikes.
According to reporting by CBS News, citing U.S. officials and sources familiar with the matter, all six service members were killed in Kuwait during the same Iranian retaliatory attack over the weekend.
Previous reports indicated that at least 18 U.S. service members have been wounded since the launch of joint U.S.–Israeli strikes under “Operation Epic Fury.”
The escalation follows strikes that reportedly killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran launched drone and missile attacks targeting U.S. military facilities across parts of the Gulf region, significantly raising tensions in the Middle East.
