Air defense systems operated by NATO intercepted and destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile that was heading toward Türkiye, according to officials from the Turkish Defense Ministry.

The missile was shot down outside Turkish airspace after traveling across Iraq and Syria. Authorities said the threat was neutralized in mid-air before it could reach Turkish territory.

A fragment from the interceptor missile later fell in the Dörtyol district of Hatay Province. Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported.

The Turkish government said its ability to protect national security remains strong. While emphasizing support for peace and stability in the region, Ankara warned that it is fully prepared to defend its territory and citizens against any threat.

Burhanettin Duran, Türkiye’s Head of Communications, urged all sides to avoid actions that could escalate tensions and spread conflict further across the region. He also asked social media users not to share unverified information.

Türkiye added that it will continue consultations with NATO and allied partners as the situation develops.
