The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation strongly condemned the firing of a ballistic missile from Iran toward the airspace of Türkiye. The missile was detected after passing through the airspace of Iraq and Syria, and was intercepted by air and missile defense systems operated by NATO.
According to Ministry of National Defense of Türkiye, the missile was successfully neutralized before reaching its target. Pieces of debris later fell in the Dörtyol district in Hatay Province in southern Türkiye, but authorities reported no injuries or casualties.
The OIC said it stands in full solidarity with Türkiye and supports the country’s right to protect its sovereignty and security. The organization also called for an immediate stop to actions that could increase tensions and destabilize the region.
In response to the incident, Türkiye summoned Iran’s ambassador, Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, to the Foreign Ministry to express strong protest and serious concerns. Turkish officials warned that any actions that could expand conflicts in the region must be avoided.
