United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Chinese Major General Junhui Wu as the new force commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
Wu succeeds Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian, whom the UN praised for his leadership during his tenure.
According to the UN, Wu brings more than four decades of military and operational experience, including service in the People’s Liberation Army and previous involvement in UN peacekeeping missions.
The leadership change comes as security challenges persist in South Sudan despite a fragile peace agreement signed in 2018.
