Ali Larijani, a senior Iranian security official, said that several American soldiers had been captured. He claimed the United States was hiding the truth by saying the soldiers were killed in action. Larijani shared the statement on the social media platform X.
However, the U.S. military quickly rejected the accusation. A spokesperson from United States Central Command said Iran’s statement was false and described it as misinformation.
The disagreement comes after tensions sharply increased following joint air strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28. According to reports, more than 1,000 people were killed in the attacks, including senior Iranian officials and civilians. Among those reportedly killed was Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Since then, the conflict has caused instability across the region, with Iran launching retaliatory attacks on sites linked to the United States.
