Severe flooding in Kenya has left at least 42 people dead after days of heavy rainfall caused flash floods across several regions. The worst impact was reported in the capital, Nairobi, where 26 people died as floodwaters swept through low-lying neighborhoods and informal settlements, submerging homes and carrying away vehicles when rivers overflowed.

Police said more fatalities were recorded in other counties as torrential rains flooded roads, disrupted transportation, and affected daily life in several towns. Emergency teams are still conducting search and rescue operations in affected areas.

Geoffrey Ruku, Kenya’s Public Service and Special Programmes Minister, confirmed the death toll and said the government had deployed emergency teams to help communities hit by the disaster. He also announced that authorities will cover hospital bills for injured victims and burial expenses for families who lost loved ones.

Floodwaters have damaged homes, businesses, and infrastructure in Nairobi and other regions, while rescue teams continue evacuating residents from flooded areas.
