Two citizens of Ghana were injured when drones fell near Dubai International Airport in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to Ghana’s Foreign Ministry.

The ministry said the two Ghanaians were hurt when two drones landed in the airport area. Officials confirmed that their injuries are not life-threatening and they are expected to recover. Authorities in Dubai reported that four people were injured in total, including the two Ghanaians, one Bangladeshi with minor injuries, and one Indian national who was moderately injured.

Dubai officials said the drones were launched from Iran. Despite the incident, airport operations continued normally and flights were not disrupted.

The event comes during rising tensions in the Middle East after joint military strikes by United States and Israel on Iran on February 28. Since then, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting several countries in the region.

Authorities in the UAE say their air defence systems have detected over 1,400 drones launched from Iran since the conflict began, with most of them intercepted before reaching their targets.

Ghana’s government condemned the incident and advised its citizens in the region to remain alert as the conflict continues.
