Kenya’s flood death toll has risen to 62, as heavy rainfall continues to batter parts of the country during the early phase of the long rains season, authorities said on Friday.

According to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the victims include 46 men, eight women and eight children, while emergency teams remain engaged in rescue operations and damage assessments across affected regions.

The capital Nairobi has recorded the highest number of fatalities, with days of intense rainfall flooding roads, homes and businesses across several neighborhoods.

Other regions have also reported casualties linked to the floods. Officials said the Eastern region has recorded 17 deaths, while the Rift Valley has reported seven. The Nyanza and coastal regions have each recorded two fatalities, and the Central region has reported one death.

Authorities say government agencies and emergency responders are continuing rescue, evacuation and relief operations to support displaced families.

Residents living in flood-prone areas, particularly along riverbanks and low-lying neighborhoods, have been urged to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories as heavy rains and potential flash floods are expected to continue.
