A senior official from the United Nations has warned that violence in the West Bank has reached an “alarming rate,” with increasing attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.
Ramiz Alakbarov told the UN Security Council that these attacks are happening almost daily, often in the presence of Israeli forces. The violence has led to injuries, property destruction, and the displacement of many Palestinian families.
He also highlighted continued expansion of Israeli settlements, with over 6,000 new housing units approved in recent months across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. According to the UN, this expansion increases tensions and makes it harder to achieve a future independent Palestinian state.
Beyond violence, Palestinians are facing widespread challenges, including home demolitions, evictions, and restrictions on movement. Many are being forced from their homes and are unable to return.
Alakbarov also raised concerns about the detention of Palestinians by Israel, including children and individuals held without trial. Reports of abuse and deaths in custody were described as deeply troubling.
In Gaza Strip, the situation remains extremely fragile despite a ceasefire. Ongoing strikes and violence continue, while around 1.4 million people remain displaced and living in difficult conditions.
Humanitarian conditions are worsening, with shortages of clean water, medical supplies, and shelter. Aid entering through Kerem Shalom Crossing has been limited.
The UN also warned that financial pressure, including withheld funds, is weakening Palestinian institutions and increasing instability.
In simple terms, the UN is raising serious concerns about rising violence, worsening living conditions, and the risk of further instability in Palestinian territories.
