Kenya Flooding

Since early March, at least 108 people have died, and more than 2,700 families have been forced to flee their homes. Entire communities have been overwhelmed as floodwaters swept away cars, submerged roads and bridges, and disrupted flights—especially near the capital.

Rescue teams are working around the clock to find missing people and provide essentials like food, clean water, and shelter. Many displaced families are now living in temporary camps, waiting for conditions to improve.

Even though rainfall has slightly decreased, the danger is far from over. The ground is still saturated, rivers remain swollen, and drainage systems are overwhelmed—raising fears of more flooding. Authorities are urging people, especially those living in low-lying or riverside areas, to stay alert.

This disaster is part of the rainy season, but experts say the intensity is unusually high, making it one of the worst flooding events in recent years.

Now, the focus is also shifting to health risks. Stagnant water increases the chance of disease outbreaks, adding another layer of concern for affected communities.

The government has called for both national and international support to help victims recover and to strengthen the country’s ability to handle future disasters.
