Africa is set to make history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with a record ten teams qualifying for the expanded global competition—marking a major milestone in the continent’s football development.

The historic achievement reflects FIFA’s new tournament format, which allows greater representation from across the world. Traditional powerhouses such as Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria headline the list, alongside strong football nations like Senegal, Ghana, and Ivory Coast.

Emerging teams including Cape Verde, South Africa, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have also secured qualification, completing a diverse and competitive African lineup.

The qualification of DR Congo is particularly symbolic, marking its return to the World Cup after more than five decades and underscoring the rising competitiveness of African football.

With momentum building after Morocco’s historic semi-final run in 2022, expectations are high that African teams could achieve even greater success on football’s biggest stage.
