Algeria is preparing for new legislative elections after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed a decree convening the electorate for July 2, 2026.
The announcement, published in the official journal, confirms the start of the electoral process, including an exceptional revision of voter lists scheduled from April 12 to April 26. The move aligns with constitutional provisions requiring elections to be organized 90 days before the end of the current parliamentary term.
In a significant institutional shift, recent constitutional amendments have redefined the role of the ANIE, removing its responsibility for logistical operations, which will now be handled by the Interior Ministry.
Political parties and independent candidates have approximately one month to prepare and submit their candidate lists, with deadlines set 60 days before the vote.
The election will determine the composition of the National People’s Assembly, which includes 407 seats allocated across Algeria’s provinces based on population size, ensuring minimum representation for less populated regions.
The upcoming vote is expected to be a key moment in Algeria’s political landscape, testing recent reforms and shaping the country’s legislative future.
