FIFA has announced that its 2027 presidential election will take place in Morocco, where current president Gianni Infantino is widely expected to secure another term.

The vote, scheduled for March 18, 2027, will bring together all 211 member federations. Infantino is likely to run unopposed, aiming for what would be his third re-election since first taking office in 2016—and his final term under FIFA’s rules.

Africa is expected to play a decisive role in the outcome. With 54 voting members, the continent has long been influential in FIFA elections. Support has already been pledged by the Confederation of African Football, led by Patrice Motsepe, as well as Morocco’s football authorities.

Morocco’s growing importance in global football is a key reason for hosting the event. The country will also co-host the FIFA World Cup 2030 alongside Spain and Portugal, and is investing heavily in stadiums and infrastructure.

Under football federation president Fouzi Lekjaa, Morocco has risen as a major football force—highlighted by its historic semi-final run at the 2022 World Cup, the first by an African nation.

Infantino’s leadership has also been marked by strong financial growth within FIFA, boosted by high revenues from global tournaments like the upcoming 2026 World Cup. This has allowed increased funding to member federations, strengthening his political backing.

If re-elected, Infantino’s presidency could extend to 15 years, ending in 2031, as he reaches the organization’s term limit.
