The plane carrying Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez made an unscheduled landing in Ankara after a technical issue during his flight from Madrid to Yerevan.

According to EFE, the aircraft—an Airbus A310 used for official travel—experienced a minor malfunction. Although not considered serious, standard safety procedures required the plane to land.

Sánchez is expected to stay overnight in Ankara before continuing his journey to Yerevan, where he is scheduled to attend the European Political Community summit.

This is not the first time a technical issue has disrupted his travel. In 2025, a similar problem forced his plane to turn back mid-flight, and he had to join an international meeting virtually.

While the situation caused a delay, officials confirmed that safety protocols worked as intended and no one was in danger.
