The US CNN television channel reported that Israel used US-made ammunition in its attack on a displaced Palestinian camp in Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
According to CNN, weapons experts evaluated the images shared on social media regarding Israel’s attack on the Palestinian camp.
Experts stated that based on the images, Israel used a US-made GBU-39 small-caliber bomb in the attack and that the serial numbers of the ammunition in the region matched the parts produced in the US.
Chris Cobb-Smith, an expert on explosive weapons, said that Israel used a US-based Boeing-made bomb, adding, “The use of any munitions, even small-diameter ones, in densely populated areas always poses risks.”
Former US Army officer and explosive ordnance disposal team member Trevor Ball stated that the bomb had different characteristics compared to other ammunition, and that he could easily detect it from its tail.
Sabrina Singh, Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), responded to the question of whether a US-made bomb was used in the Israeli attack, “I don’t know what kind of ammunition was used, I suggest you ask the Israelis.”
What happened?
On May 24, the International Court of Justice, the UN’s judicial body, issued an injunction ordering Israel to immediately halt its attacks on Rafah, stop blocking humanitarian aid and allow UN officials to enter Gaza to investigate its crimes.
On May 26, 45 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack on a camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah in the Gaza Strip, where the ICJ ordered a halt to the attacks.
Eyewitnesses said, “The shelling by the Israeli army caused the destruction and burning of many tents in the camp. This camp is located in Rafah city, where thousands of displaced Palestinians live, and is not in the area that the Israeli army wants to be evacuated.”
Witnesses said that Israeli warplanes attacked the camp with at least 8 rockets.
On the other hand, Juliette Touma, Communications Director of the United Nations (UN) Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), reported that the loss of life in the Israeli attack on the camp was very high, at least 200 people were killed.
