Around 100,000 residents fled Tehran in the first two days following the outbreak of hostilities between Iran and its adversaries, according to a new situation report from the UN refugee agency.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said the departures occurred after large-scale strikes launched on February 28 and March 1 triggered widespread fear and uncertainty in the Iranian capital.

Despite the internal displacement, UN officials noted that there has so far been no significant increase in cross-border movements. Conditions at the Islam Qala border crossing between Iran and Afghanistan remain stable, with no major changes reported.

The conflict began after major military strikes targeting Iranian sites sparked a wave of retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the Middle East. Since then, the confrontation has expanded to several regional fronts, including Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and the Gulf.

In Washington, the offensive has also sparked political debate. U.S. lawmakers are preparing to vote on a measure that could restrict further military action, with some legislators questioning the legal basis for launching the strikes without congressional authorization.

Analysts warn that the situation risks spiraling into a broader regional conflict, as exchanges of attacks continue and humanitarian concerns grow.
