At least 50 people have been killed after armed men attacked a village in Zamfara, northwestern Nigeria.
According to local lawmaker Hamisu A. Faru, the attackers stormed Tungan Dutse village on Thursday evening and continued their assault until early Friday morning. During the raid, homes were burned and residents trying to escape were shot.
Faru said the gunmen moved from one village to another, causing widespread destruction. The exact number of women and children abducted is still unknown, as traditional leaders and local officials are working to identify missing persons.
Zamfara has faced ongoing insecurity in recent years, with repeated attacks by armed groups targeting rural communities.
