The voiceover option of ChatGPT, an AI-powered chat bot, has been compared by many to the famous actress Scarlett Johansson. OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, reported that this voiceover option will be temporarily deprecated.
OpenAI announced that the voiceover option in the artificial intelligence model ChatGPT, which many users likened to actress Scarlett Johansson, will be temporarily removed.
In a statement made on the OpenAI X social media platform, it was noted that work is underway to pause access to “Sky”, one of the voiceover options offered to chat with ChatGPT.
“We believe that AI voiceovers should not deliberately mimic the original voice of a celebrity. Sky’s voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson, but a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice.”
Many ChatGPT users compared the “Sky” option to Johansson’s voice in the 2013 movie “Her”, in which she voices an artificial intelligence operating system. OpenAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sam Altman’s use of the word “Her” in his post on his X account as part of the promotion of the new version of ChatGPT, GPT-4o, also increased the controversy in this direction.
Thanks to the “Voice Mode” that ChatGPT launched in September 2023 and opened to free access in November, users can chat with the artificial intelligence model by choosing one of 5 voices, including “Sky”.
