Chinese Foreign Minister Vang Yi stated that China and Turkey should defend international justice against hegemony and power politics and called for accelerating joint efforts to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.

Visiting Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Chinese counterpart Vang Yi held a joint press conference after their talks in Beijing.

“China and Turkey should strengthen their coordination and accelerate efforts to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue as soon as possible,” said Vang, expressing that they share the same view on the ceasefire in Gaza under Israeli attacks and the preservation of peace and stability in the Middle East.

Pointing out that Gaza is currently the hottest agenda, Vang said, “A ceasefire should be established in Gaza as soon as possible and the humanitarian situation should be improved. All prisoners should be released. The two-state solution is the most fundamental way out of the Palestinian problem. China and Turkey support Palestinian membership in the UN and internal reconciliation.”

Pointing out that the two countries agree on strengthening strategic communication and protecting international justice, Vang said, “China and Turkey are two giant developing countries and representatives of emerging market economies. Our interests overlap on many issues. The two countries should strengthen cooperation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other multilateral frameworks, oppose all forms of hegemony and power politics, safeguard the stability of international industry and supply chains, and steer global governance in a more just and reasonable direction.”

Bilateral relations

Describing China and Turkey as countries representing ancient civilizations, Vang said, “The millennia-old Silk Road has firmly connected the two civilizations and strengthened friendly relations and communication.”

Vang said that in recent years, bilateral relations have developed in a healthy way in line with the common will of the leaders of the two countries and cooperation in all fields has deepened, adding that the Chinese side is satisfied with the development trend of bilateral relations.

Noting that during his meeting with Fidan, they had a comprehensive exchange of views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual concern, Vang said they reached consensus in many areas.

“We should oppose foreign powers’ interference in the internal affairs of the two countries under the pretext of democracy and human rights,” Vang said, adding that the two sides agreed to respect each other’s core interests and sensitivities, consolidate mutual political trust, and support the other side in protecting its sovereignty and development interests.

Expressing appreciation for Turkey’s continued adherence to the “one China” principle, Vang emphasized that they support the Turkish people to follow the path of independent development under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Belt and Road Cooperation

“The two countries are at the two ends of the ancient Silk Road,” Vang said, pointing out that the two countries agree on the harmonization of national strategies and want to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. China and Turkey are natural partners of the Belt and Road Initiative.”

Reminding that Turkey was the first country to sign an intergovernmental cooperation agreement with China under the Belt and Road Initiative, Vang continued his words as follows:

“The economies of the two countries complement each other and have great potential for cooperation. At a time when the world economy is going through difficulties, bilateral trade has developed despite this and fruitful results have been achieved. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Turkish side to harmonize the Belt and Road Initiative and the Middle Corridor Initiative, and to deepen cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, infrastructure, advanced technology and digital economy by utilizing all kinds of intergovernmental cooperation mechanisms, and to achieve higher levels of mutual benefit and common gains.”

Stating that the two countries have broad common interests in protecting their legitimate rights as developing countries and emerging market economies, advancing on the path of development and progress, and ensuring international justice, Vang said, “The establishment of multidimensional, deep and high-level bilateral relations between China and Turkey is in the interests of the two countries and their peoples. China is ready to take bilateral relations to a higher level together with Turkey.”
