The administration of Donald Trump said the United States used about $5.6 billion worth of munitions during the first two days of its military strikes against Iran, according to a report submitted to congressional committees.
The conflict, launched on February 28 alongside Israel, has prompted concerns among members of United States Congress that prolonged fighting could significantly deplete US weapons stockpiles. Lawmakers have warned that the defence industry is already struggling to meet growing global demand for military equipment.
To address supply concerns, Trump met executives from several major defence contractors as the United States Department of Defense works to replenish weapons inventories.
So far, the administration has not released a full public estimate of the total cost of the war. However, congressional aides say the White House is expected to request additional funding soon. Some officials estimate the request could reach $50 billion or more, though the final figure remains uncertain.
Lawmakers have also called for public testimony from administration officials to assess how the conflict may affect the US military’s readiness and national defence capabilities.
