Four men deported from the United States under Washington’s third-country migrant deportation programme have arrived in Eswatini, authorities confirmed on Thursday. The deportees — two from Somalia, one from Tanzania and one from Sudan — were transferred to the southern African kingdom as part of broader migration agreements between the US and several African nations.
According to officials, the men were taken to the maximum-security Matsapha Correctional Centre near Mbabane, where they are currently undergoing orientation by social welfare and health services. Authorities stated that the detainees arrived in good health.
Eswatini previously received 15 deportees in 2025 under similar arrangements. Reports indicate that the country agreed to host up to 160 deportees in exchange for financial support from the United States, aimed at strengthening border management and migration systems.
Government officials maintain that the migrants are being held temporarily while arrangements are made for their eventual repatriation to their countries of origin. Other African nations, including Rwanda, Ghana, South Sudan and Equatorial Guinea, have also participated in the US deportation scheme.
