The European Union (EU) has called on Israel to immediately halt its ground offensive in Rafah, Gaza. In a statement released by the office of Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the EU said: “The EU calls on Israel to immediately end its military operation in Rafah. This operation is further disrupting the delivery of humanitarian aid in Gaza and is leading to further displacement, famine and human suffering.”
The statement also emphasized the need to ensure the safety of civilians and fulfill the requirements of international humanitarian law. The EU called on Israel to refrain from further worsening the humanitarian situation in Gaza and to reopen the Rafah crossing point.
Israel should facilitate humanitarian assistance to civilians, recalling the judgments of the International Court of Justice. It also called for an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional release of all prisoners.
The EU’s call on Israel’s ground offensive in the Rafah area of Gaza aims to reduce tensions in the region and prevent a humanitarian crisis. It was also stated that this situation could have a negative impact on EU-Israel relations.
Israel’s ground offensive against Rafah is considered as part of the ongoing conflict in the region. The aim is to restore peace and stability in the region by halting Israel’s military operations.
