Iran has stepped up its ballistic missile attacks on Israel following joint U.S.–Israeli strikes that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

According to Israeli sources, at least 12 people have been killed and more than 150 injured in the latest wave of missile attacks.

Israel’s multilayered air defence systems — including Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow — intercepted most incoming missiles. However, some projectiles broke through, causing deadly damage in residential areas.

The deadliest strike occurred on Sunday in Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem. An Iranian ballistic missile directly hit a neighbourhood, destroying several buildings, including a bomb shelter. The explosion caused a roof collapse and heavy destruction. Rescue teams described chaotic scenes as they searched through debris.

Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency service, reported that the death toll in Beit Shemesh rose throughout the day, eventually reaching nine people. Dozens were injured, including at least two in serious condition.

Earlier, on Saturday night into March 1, another missile barrage struck the Tel Aviv area. Two women — aged 32 and 68 — were killed, and more than 120 people were injured, many while rushing to shelters.

Israeli authorities, including the Home Front Command, have urged residents across central and northern regions to stay alert as air-raid sirens continue to sound. The situation remains tense, with fears of further escalation.
