Masoud Pezeshkian, serving on Iran’s interim leadership council, declared on Saturday that the country will never surrender to Israel or the United States as the war enters its second week.
In a speech broadcast on state TV, Pezeshkian said, “Enemies must take their wish for the unconditional surrender of the Iranian people to their graves.” The remarks come after February 28 strikes by Israel and the US killed Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, triggering retaliatory missile and drone attacks on Israeli and US targets across the Gulf region.
Pezeshkian also offered apologies to neighboring countries affected by Iran’s counterattacks, clarifying that future strikes will only target countries that initiate attacks against Iran. “The interim leadership council agreed that no more attacks will be made on neighboring countries unless an attack on Iran originates from them,” he said.
The statement underscores Iran’s defiance while signaling a limited adjustment in regional engagement to avoid escalating broader conflict.
