In a tense interview at Ben Gurion Airport, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee told commentator Tucker Carlson that Israel has a “biblical right” to land described in Genesis — stretching from the Nile to the Euphrates. When asked whether Israel would have the right to take all that territory, Huckabee replied that “it would be fine if they took it all,” though he later said Israel is not currently seeking such expansion.
The remarks, referencing ancient borders that would include areas of Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and beyond, sparked immediate criticism and renewed debate about the influence of Christian Zionism on US foreign policy.
The discussion also turned to Gaza. Huckabee claimed Israel has maintained a historically low civilian casualty rate in urban warfare but acknowledged he did not have precise figures when pressed. Carlson challenged those claims, questioning the humanitarian impact of the war and rejecting any justification for the killing of children.
Recent research published in The Lancet Global Health estimates that more than 75,000 Palestinians may have been killed in the first 15 months of the war, a figure higher than earlier official counts.
The interview highlighted deep divisions within US political circles over support for Israel, civilian casualties in Gaza, and the broader direction of American foreign policy in the Middle East.
