The Istanbul Governor’s Office has warned residents to remain cautious as sleet and snowfall are expected to affect the city over the weekend.

In a statement citing the latest assessments by the Turkish State Meteorological Service, authorities said Saturday’s weather is forecast to be partly to mostly cloudy, with rain across most areas and sleet or snow expected in higher elevations. Temperatures are expected to range between 3 and 6 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, weather conditions are expected to remain partly to mostly cloudy, with sleet across the city and snowfall likely in higher areas and northern districts. The lowest temperature is forecast at 3 degrees Celsius, while the highest is expected to reach 5 degrees.

The statement noted that short-term snow cover may form in higher elevations and northern parts of Istanbul. It also said air temperatures, currently above seasonal averages, are expected to decline from the weekend onward.

Authorities warned that strong northerly winds, reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour at times, may cause disruptions and urged citizens to take necessary precautions against possible adverse conditions.
