Kenya has finalised a new trade agreement with China, marking a strategic milestone in its efforts to expand export markets and strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.
Announced by President William Ruto, the deal is expected to grant Kenyan goods broad duty-free access to the Chinese market, significantly enhancing the country’s export potential. While full details remain undisclosed, the agreement builds on earlier frameworks aimed at opening up to 98% of Kenya’s exports to China.
The initiative reflects Nairobi’s broader push to deepen ties with Beijing, following recent high-level engagements and cooperation agreements focused on trade and investment.
With current trade flows heavily favouring China, the new deal is seen as a key opportunity for Kenya to rebalance its trade position and increase competitiveness in global markets.
More broadly, the agreement underscores Kenya’s strategy to diversify its economic partnerships and adapt to evolving global trade dynamics.
