Several passengers were injured after a train traveling on the Abuja–Kaduna railway derailed near Asham in Nigeria. The train was running between Abuja and Kaduna, one of the country’s busiest rail routes.
According to Nigerian Railway Corporation Managing Director Kayode Opeifa, emergency response teams were immediately activated after the accident happened around 10:30 a.m.
Early reports suggest the train left the tracks after colliding with an object, though officials are still working to confirm exactly what caused the obstruction. The derailment involved a rear locomotive and a nearby passenger coach, possibly due to a coupling issue.
Several injured passengers were evacuated to a medical facility at Idu Railway Station, where they received treatment. Authorities confirmed that no deaths were reported.
Videos and photos shared on social media showed damaged train coaches, railway staff inspecting the train, and passengers standing safely near the tracks after evacuating.
The Safety Investigation Bureau is currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause and prevent future accidents.
Officials say passenger safety remains a top priority, and more information will be released once the investigation is completed.
