Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Ethiopia on Tuesday, a trip widely covered by Ethiopian media as an important diplomatic moment. The visit comes as Türkiye and Ethiopia celebrate 100 years since Türkiye opened its embassy in Addis Ababa, reflecting a relationship with roots stretching back to the 16th century.

Ethiopian outlets have portrayed the visit positively, describing it as a step toward expanding cooperation. Reports suggest that new agreements may be signed in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, and security.

Analysts say the partnership has remained steady thanks to direct political dialogue and mutual understanding, even when the two countries have faced different regional interests. Türkiye has also been credited with playing a mediating role in sensitive Horn of Africa issues, including the Ethiopia–Somalia dispute.

Scholars highlight that cultural connections—through Turkish TV series, Ethiopian students studying in Türkiye, and long-standing social ties—have helped strengthen public perceptions and deepen the relationship beyond formal diplomacy.

Overall, Erdogan’s trip is seen as both symbolic and strategic, marking a new level of cooperation between the two nations.
