Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Announces Significant Progress in Mediation Efforts with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger

Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has announced that significant progress has been made in mediation efforts with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. These three countries, which plan to fully withdraw from ECOWAS by January 2025, have engaged in talks that are being seen as a promising development for regional cooperation.

Speaking at the Doha Forum, Faye acknowledged the formation of the Sahel States Alliance (AES) as a reality, while also expressing optimism that the dissolution of ECOWAS could still be prevented. The President emphasized the need for reforms within ECOWAS to provide more effective solutions to regional challenges.
