Strong southerly winds that have affected Tekirdağ for the past week have caused red algae and various debris to accumulate along sections of the city’s coastline.

According to local officials and experts, waves driven by the persistent winds carried seaweed and other organic material toward the shore, where it gathered in visible clusters, particularly in shallow coastal areas.

Professor Lokman Hakan Tecer, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University in Çorlu, said the algae accumulation is a natural result of wind and wave movement.

“This does not indicate pollution,” Tecer said. “The algae were transported by wind and waves and simply collected along the shore. However, they may cause an unpleasant appearance and odor.”

Municipal teams are monitoring the situation and may carry out cleaning efforts in heavily affected areas to maintain public comfort and beach accessibility.
