Türkiye is rapidly advancing its green industrial transformation, with 27 Organized Industrial Zones (OSBs) now officially recognized as “Green OSBs.” The achievement signals a nationwide commitment to producing more, while polluting less.

The latest industrial zone to receive certification is Ankara’s OSTIM OSB — one of the country’s most influential manufacturing hubs. Established in the late 1960s, OSTIM has evolved from a small cooperative into a powerhouse of more than 6,000 companies, providing tens of thousands of jobs and producing technology-driven goods for both domestic and global markets.

The Green OSB certificate is awarded to industrial zones that meet stringent sustainability criteria — including renewable energy integration, water resource efficiency, waste management practices and strong environmental governance.

Ostim OSB officials say the transformation is already visible: solar energy systems are now mandatory on the roofs of new facilities, existing factories are switching to renewable power, and multiple solar power plants are operating within the zone. A new clean-energy investment is being finalized to further accelerate the transition.

Türkiye’s push toward green industry is also driven by international market realities. Export-dependent manufacturers are preparing for tightening global climate policies — especially in Europe, where the European Green Deal and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will soon impose emissions-linked trade measures.

Industry leaders warn that companies failing to reduce their carbon footprint could face barriers in global supply chains. Green OSB certification, therefore, strengthens not only environmental compliance but also commercial competitiveness.

With 27 zones already certified and more undergoing evaluation, Türkiye is reshaping its industrial identity — transitioning from traditional manufacturing to a model centered on sustainability, responsible energy use and long-term economic resilience.

Officials emphasize that the goal is not merely to keep pace with global trends — but to position Türkiye among the leaders of the green industrial revolution.
