Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held talks in Ankara with Tom Fletcher, the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, according to a statement released by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The meeting, which took place in the Turkish capital, focused on regional humanitarian challenges and international coordination efforts. The ministry confirmed the discussions through a post shared on Türkiye’s NSosyal platform.
Following the meeting, Fletcher described the talks as constructive, emphasizing Türkiye’s diplomatic role in regional and global mediation.
“Another strong exchange with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Türkiye is a pivotal mediator across the region and beyond,” Fletcher said in a message shared on social media platform X.
He added that the discussions also addressed forward-looking humanitarian goals, including plans aimed at saving 87 million lives worldwide by 2026.
The meeting comes as humanitarian agencies face mounting pressure from protracted conflicts, climate-related crises and funding shortfalls, underscoring the importance of cooperation between key regional actors and the United Nations.
Türkiye has in recent years positioned itself as an active diplomatic and humanitarian partner, hosting millions of displaced people and engaging closely with international relief organizations.
