International humanitarian support for Somalia is accelerating as Turkish and European institutions expand relief operations in response to intensifying drought and widespread food insecurity.
The Türkiye Diyanet Foundation has distributed 8,250 Ramadan food parcels across 13 regions, focusing on communities struggling with limited access to food and clean water. Officials estimate the initiative could directly benefit nearly 80,000 people.
In parallel, the European Union has pledged $74 million in additional funding to address urgent humanitarian needs. The support package prioritizes malnutrition treatment, emergency cash assistance, water and sanitation services, and protection programs for vulnerable populations.
With an estimated 6.5 million people facing hunger and nearly two million children at risk of acute malnutrition, Somalia continues to rank among the most severe humanitarian emergencies in the Horn of Africa.
