The Turkish Red Crescent has distributed food parcels to around 1,200 families displaced by conflict in Port Sudan, eastern Sudan.
According to Cesur Dervişoğlu, head of the organisation’s Sudan delegation, humanitarian assistance is continuing without interruption through the Turkish Red Crescent’s Sudan relief operation. The food packages were delivered to vulnerable families living in the Al-Sanaiye Camp.
The charity has been providing ongoing support to Sudanese communities facing severe economic hardship caused by the war.
Sudan has been in crisis since April 2023, with heavy fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Aid agencies describe the situation as the world’s largest displacement crisis, severely damaging the country’s infrastructure, economy, education, and health services.
The Turkish Red Crescent has also called on the international community to increase its support, stressing that Sudan urgently needs sustained global humanitarian assistance.
