Türkiye has announced that a Patriot air defence system is being prepared for operational readiness in Malatya, in coordination with NATO, as part of efforts to strengthen the protection of its airspace amid rising regional tensions.

According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defence, the Turkish Armed Forces remain fully committed to safeguarding the country and its citizens. Authorities stressed that additional security measures are being implemented to secure Türkiye’s borders and airspace, while consultations with NATO and allied countries continue.

The Patriot system deployment is part of broader NATO air and missile defence reinforcement in the region, complementing Türkiye’s national security measures. Malatya already hosts a NATO early-warning radar station installed in 2012 to detect ballistic missile threats.

The move follows recent missile interceptions over Turkish airspace, including another missile reportedly launched from Iran and intercepted by NATO air defence systems earlier this week.

These developments come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which have triggered retaliatory drone and missile attacks by Tehran across several countries in the region.

Ankara reaffirmed that it will continue working closely with NATO allies while maintaining its defence capabilities at the highest level to ensure national security and regional stability.
