Türkiye is taking urgent action after two CNN Turk journalists, Emrah Cakmak and Halil Kahraman, were detained in Israel while reporting live from Tel Aviv following Iranian missile strikes. Turkish officials say this is another attempt to suppress press freedom.
The journalists were covering civilians coming out of shelters when Israeli security stopped their live broadcast, took them into custody, and confiscated their phones. AK Party spokesperson Omer Celik called the detention “unacceptable” and demanded their immediate release. Turkish authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure the reporters’ safety.
Kahraman was given brief access to a phone, stating that both journalists were in good health but remained in detention and without their equipment
