Türkiye has renewed its call for a diplomatic resolution to the war in Ukraine, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan urging a return to negotiations during a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
According to diplomatic sources, the two ministers discussed practical steps to de-escalate the conflict and reopen dialogue between the warring parties. Fidan warned that prolonging the war poses serious risks not only to regional stability but also to the broader global order, citing escalating geopolitical tensions.
Reaffirming Ankara’s role as a mediator, Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s readiness to host a new round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting the country’s ongoing commitment to facilitating a negotiated settlement.
The discussion also addressed the wider global repercussions of the conflict, particularly on energy security. Both sides emphasized the need to ensure stable energy supplies and maintain cooperation in the face of ongoing disruptions to global markets.
Türkiye has previously played a key role in hosting negotiations between the two sides and continues to position itself as a central diplomatic actor as efforts to revive peace talks gain renewed urgency.
