Donald Trump said the United States could potentially hold talks with Iran, though any negotiations would depend on the terms offered by Tehran.
In an interview with Fox News on Monday evening, Trump said he had heard that Iranian officials were eager to begin discussions. However, he indicated that any dialogue would require acceptable conditions.
The US president also criticized Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he doubted the leader would be able to “live in peace.”
Trump further praised the outcome of the recent US military operation in Iran, saying its results had exceeded expectations. He also expressed surprise at Iran’s retaliatory strikes involving missiles and drones targeting Gulf countries that host US military facilities.
The comments come amid heightened tensions following recent military exchanges between the United States, Israel and Iran.
