Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has removed Health Minister Elijah Muchima in an unexpected cabinet reshuffle announced late Wednesday.
Alongside Muchima, the president also fired Elias Mubanga, the Minister of Small and Medium Enterprise Development. The presidency said the dismissals were carried out under Zambia’s constitutional provisions.
In a statement, State House spokesperson Clayson Hamasaka thanked both ministers for their service and wished them well in their future work.
Muchima had only been appointed as Health Minister in July 2024, replacing Sylvia Masebo during a previous reshuffle.
The government did not give any reasons for the sudden decision, and President Hichilema said replacements will be named soon.
