Seven Ghanaian traders who were killed in a suspected terrorist attack at a market in northern Burkina Faso have been buried, according to Ghana’s Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka.

The victims were part of a group of 18 traders who had travelled to the town of Titao on Saturday, February 14, to buy tomatoes. During their visit, armed gunmen reportedly stormed the market, separated the men from the women, and opened fire.

The minister said the attackers killed nearly all the men at the scene and even set fire to the truck, leaving the bodies burned beyond recognition.

Four people survived with injuries ,three men and one woman. While seven women managed to escape unharmed. The surviving female traders attended the burials as witnesses.

Ghanaian officials were unable to reach the attack site due to serious security risks. Burkina Faso authorities later regained control of the town and promised a military escort to help move the injured survivors safely to Ghana’s mission in Ouagadougou.

This attack is part of a growing wave of violence in Burkina Faso, where extremist groups linked to al Qaeda and Daesh have increased assaults in recent years, spreading instability across the Sahel region.
