Japan’s newly reappointed Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said she hopes to deepen her relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump and expand cooperation between Tokyo and Washington ,especially in the field of economic security.
Speaking at a news conference, Takaichi emphasized that strengthening ties with the U.S. is a priority ahead of her official visit to Washington next month. She highlighted rare earths development , a strategic industry important for electronics and defense technologies , as a key area where the two countries could work more closely together. This comes amid rising tensions between Japan and China.
Takaichi became Japan’s first female leader last October, and her party recently secured a landslide victory in parliamentary elections. After being reappointed by Japan’s Parliament, she unveiled her second Cabinet.
Her agenda includes boosting Japan’s military capabilities, increasing government spending, and advancing ultra-conservative social policies. With her Liberal Democratic Party holding a strong majority in the lower house of Parliament, she plans to use this momentum to push forward her priorities.
