A Sudanese human rights group has accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out a deadly raid on the village of Mastariha in North Darfur, western Sudan.

The Emergency Lawyers said RSF fighters stormed the village, burned homes and carried out drone strikes targeting a health centre, market and residential areas, causing casualties and forcing dozens to flee.

The group described the attack as a “blatant violation” of international humanitarian and human rights law, warning it could amount to genocide and crimes against humanity. It urged the International Criminal Court to investigate alleged crimes in Darfur and hold those responsible accountable.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023 between the army and the RSF. The military controls much of the country, including Khartoum, while the RSF holds most of the Darfur region.

The war has killed tens of thousands and displaced around 13 million people, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, according to UN reports.
