Azerbaijan says two drones launched from Iranian territory struck its Nakhchivan region on Thursday. One drone hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another crashed near a school in the village of Shakarabad. Two civilians were injured in the incident.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and warning that they increase tensions in the region. The government has asked Iran to quickly explain what happened and to investigate the incident to prevent similar attacks in the future.
Authorities in Baku also summoned Iran’s ambassador to deliver an official protest. Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry stated that Iran bears full responsibility and said the country is preparing possible response measures to protect its territory and civilians. Iran has not yet responded publicly to the accusations.
